have to get the city out of my system, I guess.

dundas street: when the insect people finally rule the earth, the rutting season might look something like this.

i have a friend who lives in the beaches. water and shore and horizon are just down the street. i love the big city buzz of toronto visits and i miss it as well, but i crave the quiet places since moving to my end of the country.

the new addition to the ontario college of art. i love this building. i have no idea what it’s like to work in a building like this but as long as i remain ignorant, i wish there were more buildings like it.

synergy.  starbucks and canada trust under one roof. did these companies come together because their logos share the same colour schemes? or will starbucks’ constant expansion require setting up in all types of spaces? will there be mobile starbucks attached to military units? starbucks counters at the back of ambulances? a starbucks in your rec room?

London Gables

•April 16, 2007 • Leave a Comment

recently returned from ontario.

london, ontario was one of the stops on my tour and a city I hadn’t been to in over twenty years. I looked forward to walking through london because I had vague memories of beautiful old houses in the downtown core. I was not disappointed.

In my city, strathcona is the neighbourhood to see intricate gables.
london proved to have many more and amazing ones at that.

Cherry Blossoms Mean Spring

cherry blossoms announce spring in my city.

i applaud whoever had the vision to plant these trees here.

other than japan, i don’t know where one would find such an abundance of these trees, although i think i heard that
washington d.c. has cherry blossoms.

you can’t enjoy the trees unless there is a background of blue sky to set them off. some years you have to wait days and days for the rains to stop and the grey sky to clear before the opportunity shows itself. the sky wasn’t perfect when i took these pictures but i was glad to discover that the recent heavy rains didn’t pummel the trees bare.

there are several separate blocks along gravely street that display these beautiful trees. these pictures are from one section and i haven’t found a better place to enjoy them. for a few weeks, the people who live here must feel like they’re in paradise.

before the hibachi and lounge chair perfected the summer backyard experience, there were, no doubt, many prototypes.

A Running Start for Walkabout

no fanfare.  no speeches. no champagne bottle smashed across the prow.

best to just get started and see where I end up.

murals are big in my city. they run the gambit from amazing to “were you even trying?”    more to come in the next months.
